I lost my beloved Tilda far too soon. She died aged just 9 years and 5 months. She was diagnosed with pyometra. Prior to surgery the vet checked her liver count, which showed that anaesthesia would be very risky. Because it was an open pyometra, I opted to try antibiotics instead of surgery. But Tilda died early one Monday morning in the same spot in my bed where she had slept throughout her life.
Tilda was truly a gift. She could always chase the clouds away when I was feeling sad. She was like a little sun of shining light.
We experienced many highs together. In agility she earned champion titles in Denmark and Sweden, and as part of the Danish national team we won gold at the Nordic Championships and silver at the World
Championships in 1998.
In the conformation ring Tilda showed how much she enjoyed the spotlight. She knew she was gorgeous. One of the high points was being awarded Best In Show by the renowned judge and collie breeder Charlotte
Høier. I also had fun handling Tilda and Poulsgaards MacDuff as a brace in 1998. We made it to second place in the Danish Kennel Club's "Brace of the Year" competition (all breeds).
If tears could build a stairway,
And memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven
And bring you home again.
The farewell words were spoken,
Time to say good-bye.
You were gone before I knew it,
And only God knows why.
My heart still aches in sadness
And secret tears still flow,
What it really meant to lose you,
No one will ever know.
But when I see your picture,
You seem to smile and say,
"Don't cry, I'm only sleeping,
We'll meet again someday."
